A Home, A Hope, A Future: Answering the Call During National Foster Care Month

From the heart of Timothy Hill Ranch

Written by Nadia G.

Each May, National Foster Care Month calls the larger community to remember that behind every number is a name, a face, a story—a child longing for safety, belonging, and unconditional love.
At Timothy Hill Ranch, this call is personal. Every day, we walk alongside youth who have slipped through the cracks of a broken family and system. And today, we raise our voices—not just for those in our care, but for the hundreds of thousands still waiting for someone to believe in them.

The Crisis We Cannot Ignore

Across the U.S., more than 390,000 children and teens are in foster care. Many have lived through trauma—abuse, neglect, or abandonment. Most have been moved from home to home, often without stability or support.
Each year, more than 23,000 young people age out of the system without being adopted or reunited with family. Imagine stepping into adulthood with no one to call, no home to return to, no safety net. Many face homelessness, incarceration, addiction, or exploitation within just a few years (sometimes a few months).
This isn’t just a crisis—it’s a calling to a national crisis. A calling for compassionate, community-led action.
Our Mission at Timothy Hill Ranch
At Timothy Hill Ranch, we believe every young person deserves more than shelter—they deserve specialized care, a support network, dignity, purpose, and a path forward.
Across the Timothy Hill Ranch residential campuses (in New York, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana) a young person who is aging out of foster care, in a failing adoption, or experiencing homelessness is able to be met with a hospitable community and authentic relationships.
Many arrive with wounds from years of instability. But that is not where their story ends.
Because here—they begin again.
Surrounded by caring staff, clinical encouragement, and a faith-driven mentorship, these young people receive access to education, workforce training, and hands-on experiences in agriculture, trades, and service.
They begin to trust.
They start to dream.
They find family.
Real Lives, Real Change
One young man came to us after living in 14 different homes before turning 17 years old. He told us, “I stopped unpacking my bags because I knew I wouldn’t stay long.”
But here, at Timothy Hill Ranch he stayed.
He graduated.
He got a job.
Today, he’s a mentor to other boys in our program. His bags are finally unpacked.

Why SHOULD Matter to All of Us

National Foster Care Month isn’t just for caseworkers or social workers.
It’s for the Church. It’s for families. It’s for every one of us.

Because foster care isn’t just a government issue—it’s a consequence of a sinful world.
Because the heart of God beats for the fatherless—and ours should too.
Because we are not called to look away—we are called to step in.
Because no child should grow up believing they are unwanted or unloved.

How You Can Help
This month, we invite you to take action:
  • Speak up for those the child who has not had an easy journey.
  • Pray for children in foster care and the families who serve them.
  • Share stories of hope and transformation.
  • Support ministries like ours through giving, volunteering, or mentoring.
Every prayer. Every gift. Every conversation—it all matters.
Let’s raise awareness.
Let’s open doors.
Let’s restore hearts.
Let’s make sure every child knows they matter.
Because at Timothy Hill Ranch, we know they do.
